Canary Wharf

Canary Wharf is situated in Tower Hamlets, London.  It's name was derived from sea trade with the Canary Islands and the docks have a varied and interesting commercial history.

Full of renovated warehouses, modern housing complexes and award winning steel architecture designs, it really does have a futuristic science fiction feel to the place and also an historic feel at the same time.

The Wharf how we know it today began construction in 1988 the brain child of Michael Von Clem Head of Credit Suisse First. It is now home to many large financial organizations, such as Morgan Stanley & the Bank of America.  The Canary Wharf development employs over a massive 75,000 people.

There are further plans for expansion to the Canary Wharf rumoured by 2014 to have doubled in size.  The Canary Wharf Development has been a fantastic boost to community and finance. It now has its own shopping Mall ‘Jubilee Palace’ and is popular with local shoppers and tourists alike .

Try the Amerigo Vespucci, a lovely little place in Cabot Square and choose something special from its fine wines list. The food here is a mixture of modern and traditional.

The Canary Wharf has an excellent transport service joining to Central London by way of the Canary Wharf DRL station, part of the Underground, with connections to The Jubilee line which then in turn joins on to the Canary Wharf Tube Station.
