Take a walk down the famous and very fashionable Carnaby Street, named after a building called Karnaby house which was built in 1683, although no one seems to know why.
In the 16th century the area in which Carnaby Street is now located, was surrounded by fields and popular with Hunters and the hunting Cry of "So! Ho!" Has given its name to the whole area that we now know as SOHO.
Carnaby Street was once the home to many tailors shops synonymous with Savile Row. The street gained popularity and a reputation for all things fashionable hip and groovy during the period known to us as the ‘swinging sixties’. Mary Quant, Music vendors, and fashion boutiques were all part of its allure. Miniskirts were in style and the summers were getting hotter & hotter.
Nowadays, Carnaby Street in London is still home to many shops but the main fashion outlets can be found at Newburgh street which crosses through Carnaby with clothes on sale from the collections of many top notch designers like Jean Paul Gautier.
There are plenty of bars and Café bars and restaurants and plenty of Jazz clubs and a great place to sit back and people watch.
It is surrounded by Regent Street, Oxford street and Charing Cross.
