Opera

One way to remember your stay in London is with a night at the Opera.  There is an excellent choice available.

The London Coliseum is the home of the English National Opera and also hosts visiting Companies productions.  The English National Opera was born in 1974 from the Sadler’s Wells Opera.  In 1984, they became the first British Opera to tour In the United States of America and the Soviet Union in 1990.   All English National Operas are sung in English and the Theatre can be found at St Martin’s Lane, London.

The Royal Opera House is permanent home to the Royal Opera, and visiting companies.  Founded in 1892, they increased the number of German and French productions in their repertory and can be found in Covent Garden.

The Sadler’s Wells Theatre presents opera as well as dance and ballet from all round the world. A modern design opened in 1998, it's auditorium is suitable for many types of production and adopts a strong contemporary and international programme.

The UCL Bloomsbury Theatre stages a wide range of productions including Opera, Drama, Music and Dance.  A comfortable venue with some 500 seats and plenty of space, it is owned by University College and hosts student productions for a quarter of the year.  Opened in 1968, it was named the Bloomsbury Theatre in 1982.
