Oxford Street

Oxford Street really is the heart and home of London Shopping.  A bustling street full of designer stores and numerous places for refreshments, you have over 300 stores to choose inside one of the largest density of shops in the UK.

Once a roman road connecting Hampshire with Colchester, Oxford Street was still surrounded by fields in the latter part of the 18th century and not at all as we know it today. In earlier times, it was the way from Newbury to the gallows at Tyburn which is very near by the site of the Marble Arch.

The Marble arch is now situated on a traffic island where it was re located in 1851, and was originally intended to serve as the main gateway into Buckingham Palace.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, after Lord Oxford bought a substantial amount of land, developments began to appear and the place became awash with activity and entertainments.
